Societal norms and the mundane create a damaging narrative that we all live our own lives. That we are all separate from one another. That we have to walk through the darkness alone. What if we dove deeper into our interconnectedness? What if your struggles were also mine? What if my victories were also yours? What if your sickness was my sickness and vice versa? What if we practiced more empathy and understanding as opposed to assumptions and judgement? Strength and survival are woven into our human design. We are made to be resilient and endure the things that scare us and break us.
My hope is those viewing this piece become more conscious of our connection. We all survive, regenerate, and blossom once again, in one form or another. This piece is designed to give a visual representation of how circumstance and time may create cracks or wear us, but when we all come together beauty grows in those spaces. Our lives may not look the same after experiencing hurdles such as cancer, but thats the point. The battle, the moments in between, the people we meet, the people we lean on- it all changes us. Let us embrace the unexpected and the grief, knowing we are all in this as one. May we build community around cancer and no one ever feel alone in their journey.
