This chair, titled “Kaleidoscope,” is a heartfelt tribute to my dear friend, Lisa Riddle. I had the privilege of meeting Lisa when she joined my company in 2007. From our very first encounter, it was clear that Lisa was a natural leader. She led by example, fostering a strong team environment where every member felt valued. To her, the individuals she supervised were more than just employees; she took a personal interest in their growth, mentoring them to achieve success both professionally and personally. Her presence was a source of joy, transforming the workplace into a fun and rewarding experience.
In 2016, Lisa faced the daunting challenge of a breast cancer diagnosis. I vividly recall her words when she shared the news: “I have good news and bad news. The bad news is I have cancer; the good news is, the doctors say it won’t kill me.” After a courageous and valiant battle lasting three years, Lisa ultimately lost her fight against cancer. She is profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. While she may not have survived her illness, Lisa left behind an extraordinary legacy characterized by love, courage, integrity, and inspiration.
The name “Kaleidoscope” reflects the vibrant way Lisa lived her life—making a difference in the world around her. As we navigate our journey through life, our interactions with others create a beautiful tapestry, much like the ever-changing patterns of a kaleidoscope. These connections can be both casual and deeply profound.
This chair is crafted from glass and ceramic tiles, crockery, stained glass, and stainless-steel ball chain, designed to be weather-resistant for outdoor use. It would make a stunning addition to any patio or porch on its own and it can also serve as a unique plant stand.
This chair is submitted by Karen Laiacona of Purple Turtle Art, a local mosaic artist based in Greenville. Karen draws inspiration from the beauty of “the puzzle” and taking broken items to create art! She is most inspired by the Ernest Hemingway quote “We are all broken; that is how the light gets in!”
